 What do I do if I have extra garbage?
Place extra garbage in a plastic bag, not weighing more than 30 pounds and may not exceed 35 gallons, with a prepaid extra garbage tag. Extra garbage tags can be purchased at local grocery stores and city facilities. Then place the plastic bag next to the garbage cart on your regular service day. You may also take extra garbage to the SMaRT® Station located at 301 Carl Rd. Sunnyvale, CA 94089

 How can I properly dispose of my old TV, computer, fax machine, old cell phones, and/ or other pieces of electronic waste?
You may take all these items to the SMaRT® Station located at 301 Carl Rd. Sunnyvale, CA 94089. Another way to dispose of electronic waste is to schedule an On-Call pick up. City of Sunnyvale residents are eligible for two On-Call pick ups per year on your regular service day. You can schedule it by calling the City of Sunnyvale at (408) 730-7400. We ask that you contact us 24 hours in advance to request pick up service.

 How can I properly dispose of needles, lancets, syringes, and other sharps?
The best practice is to put used sharps in a specially-designed sharps container that is available from your health-care provider or pharmacy. When your sharps container is full, simply bring it to the SMaRT® Station located at 301 Carl Rd., Sunnyvale. 

 How do I schedule On-Call pickups?

 How can I rent a debris box?
Residents can contact the City of Sunnyvale to schedule a debris box delivery by calling (408) 730-7400. Contractors can call Specialty at (408) 565-9900.

 How do I start recycling at my home?
To start recycling at your home please call the city of Sunnyvale and request a recycling cart which is included in your service. We will deliver the cart on your regular service day.

 How do I start recycling at my business?
To start recycling at your business please call the City of Sunnyvale at (408) 730-7681 for more information regarding different recycling programs.

 What do I do with hazardous material?
Hazardous material may not be collected curbside but, can be taken to the SMaRT® Station located at 301 Carl Road. The SMaRT® Station is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The SMaRT® Station is closed on January 1, Thanksgiving and December 25.  Do you have compost bins?
Yes, compost bins are available. Please contact the Sunnyvale Recycling Program at (408) 730-7362 for more information.

How can I order additional containers for garbage, yard trimmings and recycling?
Residents of Sunnyvale may not obtain additional carts. If you need to make changes to your account, start service or stop service please contact utility billing customer service at (408) 730-7400.

 Can I request extra service on my pick up day?

 Where do I put my carts and when?
Please place your carts at the curb with the arrows on carts lid pointing toward the street by 7 a.m. on your service day.

 Do you collect paint?
No. State law classifies latex paints as hazardous household wastes. As a result, latex paint must be disposed at the SMaRT® Station located at 301 Carl Rd. Sunnyvale, CA 94089.

 What do I do if there was a missed collection?
If collection on any of your services weren’t provided. Please check to see if a non-collection tag was left on your cart explaining why pick was not possible. If no tag was left please contact Specialty at (408) 565-9900 with any questions or concerns.

 May I still use my personal 32-gallon garbage can?
Yes, there are a few ways you may continue using your own garbage can. You may us it for extra yard trimmings on your regular collection day or for extra garbage if you order an On-Call bulky pickup.

 Are there any other changes in recycling service other than adding mixed paper to the newspapers in my split cart?
There are no other changes to the recycling service.

 Are there any changes to the yard trimmings collection program?
No. Yard trimmings will continue to be collected curbside using the green yard trimmings cart. Extra yard material can continue to be set out in a 32-gallon can. (Please note: yard trimmings in plastic bags cannot be recycled, and will require a pre-paid tag to be collected as garbage refuse). Tie branches into bundles no longer than 4 feet long and 1 foot in diameter.

 Will extra dumping days still be available?
SMaRT® Station extra dumping days will continue to be held two weeks each spring and fall free of charge.
